MidMay is redefining Vancouver's Alternative R&B scene with their eclectic sound and genre-blurring artistry. Fronted by longtime collaborators Tom Shand and Jacob Regehr, the duo's journey spans over a decade of creating music together. After 15 years of exploring various projects, they’ve finally joined forces to carve out their unique space in the indie music world.
The name MidMay came from their birthdays. Jacob would have been born just one day before Tom, but his six-week premature arrival added a unique twist to their shared story. This serendipity mirrors their chemistry and the soulful interplay of their voices. Both Tom and Jacob sing, giving MidMay’s sound a rich, layered quality that weaves effortlessly through R&B, pop, soul, and jazz.
Drawing from an impressive palette of influences—including The Beatles, Radiohead, Hall & Oates, Simon & Garfunkel, Donny Hathaway, Carole King, Amber Mark, and Stevie Wonder—MidMay channels timeless inspiration into deliberate, heartfelt songwriting. Their music balances homage and innovation, resonating with listeners across genres.
With over 350,000 streams on Spotify for their singles "Bordeaux" and "Keefer Street," MidMay is already making waves. They’re set to break new ground with their debut EP, "Sounds in Stays," which was completely recorded themselves and released on March 14th 2025. In Vancouver’s post-pandemic music renaissance, MidMay is leading the charge, delivering vibrant, transformative sounds that are impossible to ignore.
